It measures 11 x 14 and is in very good, if not excellent condition. Paper (which is marked "Pen & Ink Paper" lower right corner of paper) is toned from age as can be expected from a century old piece---pin holes in upper and lower corner margins (no doubt from display) and two holes are punched at top of paper where brass fasteners held together a number of his drawings. Quality original Nouveau drawings are difficult to come by.

This is just one in the collection of William Ketterer's drawings that I acquired years ago. There is no question that William was skilled. Its a shame he and his family met with such tragic ends. There is little to be found regarding William Ketterer or his art career, which makes sense given what I found in U.

He was born on June 8, 1886 in Pennsylvania. However, his life was cut short on May 7, 1914, at the tender age of 28 years, when he succumbed to Tuberculosis. Census records indicate that he worked as an elevator man in a department store.

He was married at the time of his death to his young wife, Bessie M. Ketterer, who had the profession of knitter. I dont know what became of her as I could not locate any death records on her. Together, they had one son, Paul R. Ketterer, who tragically committed suicide in 1925 at the age of 16 years, eleven years after his father died. The death certificate references that the young man died from swallowing Sodium Cyanide. William Ketterers artwork is superbly donethe 50 or 60 drawings in the collection are of various subjects and are mixed mediamostly ink and ink washthey are all really remarkable. It is an honor to offer these drawings for sale on eBayif for nothing more than to honor William Ketterers memoryas his art skills are worthy of being prominently displayed.
